Curriculum
Tanga International School caters for students between the ages of 3 and 12. The
school aims to provide an exciting and stimulating learning environment where
students are challenged to perform to a high academic standard. The medium of
instruction is English. The School has a written curriculum that focuses on the foundations of education whilst
extending the student's educational experiences through integrating reading,
writing and mathematics with the language arts and the sciences. The TIS curriculum combines good contemporary
classroom practice from
International, English and
Australian education
systems.
Inquiry-based learning is an
essential feature of the way we teach. With inquiry, the responsibility for learning is shared
between the teacher and the student. Students learn essential skills and
knowledge in order to find out about and understand ideas of global importance.
Our students are encouraged to explore their world, ask questions, express their
opinions, form their own ideas, take initiative and take responsibility for
their own behaviour and learning. These skills are encouraged within a
structured and rigorous learning environment.
Students at TIS benefit from small class sizes. Our staff of well qualified and
experienced teachers individualize learning to ensure children
receive the care and attention they need to experience success.
The school is well resourced and all books and texts are supplied by the school
for the students. Most educational materials are ordered from overseas. Students
have access to computer and library facilities throughout the school
day.
The school offers a range of extra-curricular activities including swimming,
sailing, art, music and football. TIS is keen to develop the interest and involvement of parents in the
school and welcomes all parents to participate in or offer additional extra-curricular school activities.
In any school, the curriculum is a
living and growing thing. One of the essential components of our programme is
the ongoing reflection and discussion that takes place amongst teachers and
parents. This leads to changes and improvements each year. Students who finish
their primary education at TIS are ideally prepared to successfully meet the
demands of the I.B. programme offered in international schools around the world.
