Grade 3-6 have been working on a
unit of inquiry titled 'Masaai and I'. The central idea of the unit
is that we can find similarities and differences between cultures. It is an
inquiry into:
- the daily life and work of
Masaai
- the roles and
responsibilities in the Masaai community
- differences between our
urban lifestyle and the Masaai lifestyle
- how these differences
create conflicts of interest
| We were invited
to camp inside a Masaai Boma in Arusha to find out more about how the Masaai
live. |
We cooked our
own food. |
A goat was
slaughtered for our dinner. |
We
helped to herd the goats in the morning and evening. |
The young
goats have to be removed from the herd and are kept inside the Boma. |
We walked 8
Kilometres across the bush and had an English lesson in a Masaai School. |
We played
football with the children from the Boma. |
We visited
houses and met different family members. |
| |
We would all
like to thank Alais Morindat who made our visit possible. |
