Students at TIS have been participating in a weekly Ngoma activity. The teacher, Ramadhani Juma, has
been teaching the students a traditional dance from Tanga. It is from the
Waziguwa tribe, who settled in Tanga. The Waziguwa perform this dance at
harvest time as a celebration. It is one of the oldest dances of the
Waziguwa. It was written by Makumba, one of the first elders of the
tribe. The words are in Kiziguwa. The chorus translates as “I am calling
upon you to come and harvest”. The dance is performed in
villages in and around Tanga during every harvest. On Monday 12th December,
the TIS Ngoma group gave their first performance to parents. |
