Young Movers Visit TIS
The Young Movers programme gets young people and adults active in their communities across the UK. It provides a range of residential courses for groups of young people (aged 11-16) and local adults that want to organize community projects. The training is practical and fun - with courses designed around music, sports, arts and outdoor activities. In September, The Young Movers came to Tanga International School. The school was used as a base for the organization to run training courses for a local school. TIS students become facilitators and translators for the week as part of the school's community service programme. Group Coordinator Mike Amos-Simpson explained "Our main purpose for the trip is to develop our own volunteers as better trainers for the courses they run in the UK. In addition to organizing and adapting the activities when in Tanga, we also hope to learn some new ideas that we will put into action in this country. We hope the trip will have many personal benefits for the young people involved, and of course really hope that Young Movers in Tanzania will prove to be as effective as it has been in the UK. We hope that the children in Tanga will continue to use the activities we show them." To find out more about the Young Movers' visit to Tanga visit www.tangayomo.co.uk |
